When do I apply for Medicare if I’m retiring?

It depends on when you are retiring. If you are retiring when you turn 65 then you want to apply during your initial enrollment period the 3 months you turn 65, the month of, or up to 3 months after. If you are over 65 and are retiring the soonest you can apply for Medicare is up to 2 months before you retire and the month of. For example if you plan to retire in June and your employer plan will cover you till June 30 the earliest you could apply is May 1st and as late as July 31.
